Suitland had a dominant performance in its season opener, shutting out Parkdale, 40-0. Without a single returning starter on offense, the Rams put up strong numbers, generating 253 yards of total offense.
The Rams were led by a fierce rushing attack, spearheaded by tailback Kevin Williams' 58 yards and two touchdowns. Suitland tailback Dontrewell Kelly was everywhere on offense and defense, rushing for two touchdowns and forcing a fumble.
Parkdale, on the other hand, had trouble sustaining drives all afternoon and could only muster 124 yards of total offense while turning the ball over twice on fumbles. The Panthers were led by tailback Nate Retta, who ran for 31 yards.
Suitland's defense had trouble early in the game against Parkdale, which began with multiple spread formations and spent the entire game using a no-huddle offense.
But the Rams got all the points they would need in the first quarter with a nine-play, 52-yard drive, capped by tailback Keith Brown's three-yard touchdown run. Split back Anthony Bush scored on a 42-yard punt return in the third quarter.
"We started off slow defensively, but I told the guys to settle down and we would begin to break them down," said Suitland coach Nick Lynch. "I'm just really pleased with the effort they came out with. Three weeks ago, you wouldn't have believed this team could play this way."
