The only thing that could stop Billy
Cosh last night was the weather.
Cosh threw touchdown passes on five of the first six
Arundel drives to lead his team to a 34-7, rain-shortened
victory against South River.
"We felt really well because we had a great week of
practice," said Cosh, who was 19-for-25 with 240 yards. "South
River has the basic coverage, and we tried to exploit that as
much as we could."
The Wildcats (3-1) jumped out to a 34-0 lead by the start
of the third quarter and handed South River its first loss a
week after beating North County by 26 points.
With 6:06 left in the game, officials cleared the field
after a flash of lightning, and the coaches decided to call
the contest to prevent any potential injuries.
R.J. Harris and Sean Fitzgerald each caught two touchdown
passes, and Alec Lemon hauled in six passes - including a
35-yard touchdown reception - for a game-high 88 yards.
"We've got good receivers. They're overlooked," Arundel
coach Chuck Markiewicz said. "Everybody talks about Alec
Lemon, but we've got three other guys who can catch the
ball."
Cosh and Harris hooked up twice in the first quarter to
give the Wildcats a 13-0 lead.
Fitzgerald caught an 18-yard pass to set Arundel up at the
1-yard line, and Cosh threw an arching pass to Harris in the
left corner of the end zone with 8:06 left.

Cosh hit Harris with a short pass 69 seconds later, and he
took it 14 yards down the left sideline for the touchdown.
"We felt good coming in," Markiewicz said. "We had a good
week last week, and we just wanted to keep that going."
The Seahawks (3-1), who haven't beaten Arundel since 2003,
were penalized nine times for 67 yards - 42 of which came in
the first quarter.
"You can't have penalties in the first quarter," South
River coach Steve Erxleben said. "That's the closest 34-7 game
I've ever been a part of."
Cosh hit Harris for a 13-yard pass down the left sideline
before connecting with Lemon on the right side for the 35-yard
score with 8:23 left in the second quarter.
Chris Rice sacked South River quarterback Joey Rotolone to
give the ball back to Arundel at the Seahawks' 27, and Cosh
completed five consecutive passes, capped by a 43-yard toss to
Fitzgerald on the right sideline.
Fitzgerald set up just beyond the line of scrimmage for the
short pass, and he turned down the sideline and eluded two
defenders on his way for the score to build a 27-0 lead.
"It's great chemistry," said Fitzgerald, who caught three
passes for 81 yards. "We thought we might have needed to dink
and dunk the ball down the field, but we ended up having a lot
of explosive plays, and that changed the game for us."
Arundel's Robert Payne stripped the ball from South River
running back Drew Lee early in the third quarter, and Cosh and
Fitzgerald connected for a 20-yard score on the next play.
In four games this season, his first as the varsity
quarterback, Cosh has thrown for 1,021 yards and 14 touchdowns
while only being intercepted three times.
"He's got a lot of flaws, believe me," Markiewicz said.
"He's a pretty good player. He's getting better every
week."
The Seahawks, who rely on their powerful running game, got
on the board with 3:39 left in the third when Bobby Hite took
a pass from Rotolone 78 yards for the score.
"When they've got nine guys in the box, you've got to throw
the ball," Erxleben said. "We threw it better than we had all
year."
